Intakes
Side Rollers
These are intakes that excel at picking up objects that have at least a half a foot of extension or more. It is usually best
with sphere-shaped objects but they can intake irregular shaped objects such as barrels and footballs.
They require two motors to work and are one of the more vulnerable kinds of intakes, but they are reliable and simple.
Side rollers are one of the most common intake designs in VEX.

Top Rollers
These intakes are similar to side rollers except that it is a single roller on top. These are best with balls and can struggle with anything of an irregular shape. However, top rollers can intake much smaller objects than side rollers, and as a result can pick up objects such as beanbags and small inches-sized objects.
These require only one motor to use.

Claws
Claws are the simplest kind of intake to use, but while they are reliable, they also take a significant amount of a space and usually have a lower capacity than most intakes. Claws also can take more work to use as a roller-type intake can intake just as fast with less moving parts.
These require at least one motor to run or pneumatics.

Treads
Treads are similar to side rollers except that they have long continuous chains which have a longer-lasting grip on objects. Treads can be vertical or horizontal depending on personal preference. Treads take up more space and have more moving parts than most intakes, but they are reliable.
These can be run off one motor if geared together but the force necessary to run the intake could more than the motor could handle.
